Members of the Auan property rights association presented their ‘Justice in Planning’ prize to the Spanish Senate in Madrid last week.
The prize, which aims to recognise those who have helped further the cause of justice for good faith illegal property owners, was presented to Senate president Pío García Escudero by Len and Helen Prior.
The couple became a symbol of the fight for justice after their Vera house was demolished in 2008, for which they are still fighting for compensation.
The Senate was awarded the prize for its decision to approve a change in the law that requires homeowners to be paid compensation prior to demolition of their home.
