IN-PATIENTS at Gandia hospital will be electronically tagged so staff and companions know where they are at all times.
The pioneering system involves wristbands with a chip implanted, meaning doctors and nurses can tell straight away whether the patient is currently undergoing tests or is in the operating theatre.
This allows them to coordinate the treatment process better and cut down waiting times, as well as increasing safety within the hospital and for patients themselves.
For elderly patients with dementia, and children, it means they can be tracked down immediately if they wander off.
And for family members, partners and friends accompanying patients, they will be able to find out exactly where the person being treated is.
