THE lack of five-star hotels in Castellón is said to be slowing down the arrival of tourists with a high level of spending power.
According to the provincial tourism board, the dearth of top-class establishment is preventing Castellón from competing directly with Alicante and Valencia.
There is currently only one five-star establishment in Castellón, plus 27 four-stars.
The majority of the 164 hotels in the province are two and three-star, numbering 53 and 49 respectively.
Provincial tourism chiefs insist that the number is ‘insufficient’ to make the sector take off.
