THE ongoing threat of jihadi terrorism in the Valencia region has triggered the creation of a special Guardia Civil detachment at Cofrentes nuclear power plant.
These facilities have been classed as ‘critical’, leading the government to modify the royal decree concerning the physical protection of these installations.
They will now be required to have a permanent ‘response unit’ of Guardia Civil officers on guard at all times.
Officers will keep an eye on the possible ‘unauthorised removal of nuclear materials or acts of sabotage’.
