A NEW short stay parking area for dropping off or picking up passengers at Elche-Alicante airport will be finished in the spring.

The €425,000 job is creating 27 spaces which are free to park in for the first 10 minutes, revealed Elche city hall.

Airport director Laura Navarro said it will enable picking up and dropping off of passengers in arrivals, and mean that users do not have to enter the car park, improving traffic flow in the area.

She thanked city hall and the local police for their efforts to regulate the situation while the work is being carried out, and said she hopes this will improve once this new initiative is finished.

Sra Navarro also noted that the contract to improve the car park for long stays and pass holders in the old terminal has an estimated budget of over €12 million and a 27-month timeframe to redesign the facilities in order to optimise use of space and adapt to passengers’ new needs. Both projects are investments in the airport regulation plan (DORA) 2022-2026 for all airports run by state airport company AENA.
