No cars allowed

TRAFFIC has been banned once again from Gandia’s El Prado square and several lanes in the old town to give the main shopping and leisure areas a peaceful, pedestrian-friendly new image.
Most allow vehicles in to load and unload during restricted time slots, cars at school closing time, or access to residents who have garages on the affected streets.
Those now shut to traffic have been fitted with ‘sinking’ posts of about two feet high, which drop into the ground to let cars, vans and lorries through at permitted times.
Police have been setting up signs and placing notes on parked cars to warn them, aiming to inform drivers first and only fine them if they deliberately flout the rules later on.
