Bad weather means business for La Safor

SUDDEN torrential downpours just before 22.00 on Wednesday meant a pop concert on Gandia beach had to be called off barely 20 minutes after it started.
The joint affair with national chart-toppers India Martínez and Vanesa Martín was a wash-out – at a time of year when hot, dry weather is normally guaranteed.
It is not known whether the concert will be rescheduled or fans will get refunds on their tickets.
For most of La Safor (Valencia province), however, the looming threat of rain and plummeting temperatures which preceded the storms have turned out to be great for business: bars in Oliva and Gandia, as well as shopping centres and town-centre retailers say their takings went up by around 30% this week, as people were forced to find cover and warmth.
