A ‘HEART attack code’, designed to reduce the time between a patient experiencing symptoms of a heart attack and receiving treatment, is going to be implemented at Torrevieja hospital and made available 24-hours a day at Elche general after the summer.

The objective is to reduce mortality rates for acute myocardial infarctions by coordinating professionals in hospital hemodynamics units, including heart surgeons, with other professionals in primary care and emergency medical services.

When a patient arrives with symptoms of a heart attack, any medical centre or service can activate the code by alerting the region’s emergency services coordination centre (CICU).
