Unregistered elderly expats lose out

Zurgena couples not entitled to help with nursing home fees as they are not on ‘padrón’ town register

Assistance with nursing home fees is dependent on being registered on the ‘padrón’, councillor Jim Simpson discovered

Two elderly couples in Zurgena have been refused financial assistance with care home fees because unknowingly they were no longer listed on the town register, according to British councillor Jim Simpson.

Zurgena council was able to find both of them places in care homes in the Macael area and subsequently contacted social services to try to obtain some financial assistance with the fees.
