Assistance with nursing home fees is dependent on being registered on the ‘padrón’, councillor Jim Simpson discovered

Two elderly couples in Zurgena have been refused financial assistance with care home fees because unknowingly they were no longer listed on the town register, according to British councillor Jim Simpson.

The couples, in their 70s, came to the town hall for help because in each case one of the pair needed round-the-clock care. One suffered from severe dementia and the other had had a fall.

Zurgena council was able to find both of them places in care homes in the Macael area and subsequently contacted social services to try to obtain some financial assistance with the fees.
