Mojacar council should buy the abandoned El Moresco hotel using public money “to stimulate local tourism and create jobs”, the Socialist PSOE party has said.

The three-star hotel, previously owned by controversial businessman Arturo Fernández, has been closed since September 2008, but the PSOE opposition party says it wants to turn the hotel into a hostelry school using public-private funding (PPP).

In a statement, the PSOE said it had already requested the council buy the hotel to help create jobs, claiming it would prevent private investors from turning it into holiday homes “as happened with the old Hotel Mojacar”.
