Beachgoers in Vera Playa were shocked to find a dead shark washed up on the shoreline last weekend.

The creature, a blue shark, measuring approximately 1.8 metres was found in the Pueblo Laguna area of the beach on Sunday morning (January 10) with its dorsal fin missing.

Marine rescue group Equinac, which sent volunteers to the the scene to take photos and measurements, later said it could not be sure that the fin was removed deliberately or prior to death.
