Roquetas de Mar has announced plans to permit the construction of more than 8,000 homes and several hotels on the Las Salinas salt-pans.
Now a petition with more than 13,000 signatures has been collected by opponents of the plan, who argue that more construction is unnecessary and will destroy the last green lung left in the city.
Greenpeace attacked the project, naming it on Tuesday as one of eight egregious proposed building projects that are further destroying Spain’s Mediterranean and south Atlantic coasts.
