An underwater survey by the Spanish naval survey vessel Hespérides has discovered a number of previously unknown seismic faults and slippages in the seabed between Almería and Africa.
Although it is too soon to say how old these faults are, it has been suggested that they are of recent creation. A new fault line was recently discovered off the coast of Carboneras which caused geologists to suspect that major tectonic movements are happening.
