A protected golden eagle was found badly wounded after being shot near a game reserve in Barranco de La Hoz in Murcia.

Police said one of its wings had been badly damaged after the bird suffered nine shotgun pellets in the attack. They said the eagle was hit while flying, probably by hunters who view it as competition for their own sport.

The bird was found by a member of the public and is recovering in a centre for wild animals.
