A dangerous criminal on the run from the Belgian authorities has been arrested by police in the port of Almería.

Moroccan Rachid El Ouakili, 41, was sent to jail for 15 years in 2005 for the manslaughter of a Belgian police officer following a string of convictions for robbery and drug trafficking.

El Ouakili was released in 2010 on parole, but he jumped bail last year. Although the bail conditions have not been explained fully a Belgian judge issued a European arrest warrant after El Ouakili fled the country.

He was caught by National Police officers earlier this month (March 4) as he attempted to enter Spain via ferry from the Moroccan town of Nador.
