A Polish-owned firm will build the ‘biggest cable skiing installation in Europe’ in the rowing canal in Cuevas del Almanzora following a deal with the local council.

Luna Cable Park S.L., which is headed by businessman Piotr Jaworowicz, signed a 35-year contract earlier this month to take over the troubled rowing canal, which was purpose-built for the 2005 Mediterranean Games, and invest 1.7 million euros in refurbishing the complex.

Only one other firm, based in Granada, made a counter bid.

In a statement, the council boasted the canal would become “one of the most important sporting reference points internationally” , offering an array of water sports, including kayaking, wakeboarding and waterskiing in addition to indoor activities and a restaurant.
