Harvey Defriend, long-time Vera resident and champion of the arts in Almería has died aged 77.
He passed away on Friday, January 6, at Huércal Overa hospital following a short illness. After his death, tributes poured in on social media to a man overwhelmingly described as “generous”, “warm-hearted” and “a great character”.
Harvey, who leaves his wife Kathy, two children and five grandchildren, was a well known figure on the province’s classical music scene, as well as working with Vera Red Cross and liaising with Vera council to expand culture in the town.
