Pedestrianisation of popular areas and increased police patrols planned

New security measures are being introduced in towns across the province following meetings between top government officials and police.

The move comes in the wake of the terrorist attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils three weeks ago, in which 16 people died and about 130 were injured by terrorists using vehicles to mow down pedestrians in busy tourist areas.

Almería city will now see the permanent pedestrianisation of certain key areas, which could include the Paseo Maritimo, the Avenida Federico García Lorca and the Paseo de Almería.
