More than one million passengers used Almería airport in 2017, marking the busiest year since 2008, according to the latest official data.
The figure represents a 9.5 per cent increase compared to 2016, mostly due to the rise in the number of international flights, which were up by 23.6 per cent year-on-year and accounted for more than half of the airport’s activity.
The most popular international connections were to and from the UK and Belgium, although Denmark and Sweden reported the biggest rise, with passenger numbers doubling in 2017. Last year’s upturn was underlined in October when British Airways announced that it would be starting a new, twice-weekly service from Heathrow to Almería as from March 27.
