Albox mayor Francisco Torrecillas has lashed back at the seven socialist councillors who last week resigned from the council en masse, boasting that he had sacked one of them earlier for calling him a “dictator”.

Sr Torrecillas spoke to CA News a week after all the PSOE party councillors walked out over a row about his decision to move the street market out of the town centre.

The councillors were further enraged when he dismissed treasury councillor and deputy mayor Tito Carrillo shortly afterwards, ostensibly over the market issue.

But Sr Torrecillas, who is now running the council singlehandedly as member of the independent Cilius party, this week admitted he sacked Sr Carrillo after the latter accused him of being dictatorial. “I am not a dictator – I sacked (Torrecillas) for calling me that,” he told this reporter.
