An innovative campaign to remove old fishing nets and other waste from the sea is being undertaken by the Oceanogràfic foundation and the regional department for farming and the ecological transition.
A regional government spokesperson explained that in most cases these are nets which fishing crews have ‘lost’ overboard.
The first operation took place off the coast of Alicante province last week.
