The Spanish ribbed newt is making a come-back in Benissa after 18 of the aquatic creatures were released into a pond in the municipality, which had been bred at the Oceanogràfic centre in Valencia.
The newt has ‘voracious’ feeding habits and their diet includes the larvae of insects.
