While customers are paying vastly inflated sums for fresh produce, these extra profits are not being passed down to farmers to cover their soaring production costs.
“Speculation and distribution chains are ruining us,” according to the young farmers’ association (ASAJA) in Alicante province.
Prices for fruit and vegetables are being tripled from the field to market, they state.
