Mayor orders ruling councillor to step down following vote row

Mayor Morales has come under attack from various fronts, including from within his coalition administration

Turre council has been thrown into turmoil after mayor Martin Morales asked a ruling councillor to resign after voting against a crucial works project.

The move came after councillor Maria Luisa Cervantes, from the Somos Turre party, voted together with the Socialist PSOE party to oppose the project during a meeting of ruling councillors last Friday.

The mayor’s scaled-back project has proved unpopular with many within his council, with critics claiming it is a slapdash solution to a problem which has plagued Turre for years, much of it due to the inability of successive administrations to expropriate the necessary land to construct the pavement.
