A British man with previous convictions for domestic violence and robbery was shot by Albox police up to four times at the weekend after he allegedly tried to attack his ex-wife with a knife.

The incident happened outside the woman’s house in the neighbourhood of La Cuerda at about 1.30am on Saturday (March 18).

According to police, Anthony Wayne Christopher Bellys, 43, was fired on after ignoring warning shots. He was rushed in a serious condition to La Inmaculada hospital in Huércal Overa with bullet wounds to his backside, leg and torso.

Bellys had reportedly breached a restraining order by confronting his former partner at her home and holding her against her will for hours.
