An Argentinean mastiff found in a skeletal condition wandering the countryside in Chirivel two weeks ago is “gaining weight and doing really well”, according to the Huella Fiel rescue association.

The dog, now named ‘Chiri’, was rescued after a passing cyclist contacted a local Huella Fiel representative who called the Guardia Civil.

After being driven to a vet in Huercal Overa, Chiri was taken in by the association and is now being looked after at home by volunteer Billie Louise Foskett from Vélez-Rubio.

Speaking to CA News she said: “He was in a really horrible state. He should weigh 50 kilos but when he was found he was half that.”
