Mojacar's existing town hall is to be replaced

Plans to build a new multi-million euro town hall and resurrect proposals for a beach bypass road in Mojacar next year proved controversial after the 2016 town budget was announced last week.

The council set a €10 million budget for next year, €200,000 more than 2015, with a 36 per cent reduction in finance repayments and an increase in tax payments recovered from 55 to 70 per cent.

The most significant single allocation however – €2.7 million – is destined for a new town hall in the Plaza Nueva, comprising the conversion of buildings currently used for some council services.

Opposition councillor Jessica Simpson from the Mojacar Positiva Se Mueve party described the new town hall as “a big waste of money”.
