A conman behind an alleged credit card scam in Mojacar has been jailed for four years in the UK after being found guilty of defrauding Premier League footballers and former England manager Sam Allardyce out of thousands of pounds.

Stephen Ackerman, 48, from Loughton in Essex, tricked Allardyce and a number of West Ham United players and staff into buying non-existent Christmas hampers in December 2014.

He withdrew more than £60,000 by using a handheld chip and pin device to take his victims’ credit card details.
