The owner of a beach bar in Mojacar has been handed a suspended nine-month prison sentence after being found guilty of carrying out illegal refurbishments on his chiringuito.

At the trial in Almería city, the court heard that Pedro Manuel Montoya Morales ignored repeated warnings from the Junta de Andalucía to halt the work being carried out at the Shambala bar in February 2015.

The regional government officially notified Sr Montoya on three occasions by registered letter within the space of a month, but the warnings went unheeded.
