Shocked volunteers from an Almería-based animal shelter last week rescued a puppy which had been left to die in a refuse tip after being dumped in a plastic bag with her muzzle tightly bound.
The puppy was found on waste ground while two volunteers from the La Huella Roja animal sanctuary were taking one of the centre’s dogs for a walk next to the shelter in Almería city.
According to the association’s Facebook page, the dog – Meca – stopped in its tracks before pulling at the leash and leading them to the tip and the black, plastic bag. To their horror, they discovered a terrified three-month old puppy inside with its muzzle shut tight with a plastic zip tie.
Fearing the worst, the two quickly cut the tie before giving the puppy, which they named Campa, a thorough check up. Although she was “extremely hungry and thirsty” as a result of her ordeal, she was said to be in good health.
