Launch of forthcoming model sees rush of Spanish towns vying to be its namesake

An announcement by Spanish car manufacturer Seat of the launch of a new, as yet unnamed, SUV has sparked a wave of petitions to name it after favourite Spanish towns, including Mojacar.

The huge response has caused Seat to “reconsider” its naming process, CA News can reveal.

Seat, part of the Volkswagen group, announced that the new ‘sports utility vehicle’, will be designed in Barcelona and made in Germany for release in 2018, but has not yet been given a name.

The news opened the flood gates for towns all over Spain to put themselves forward, based on Seat’s tradition of naming its vehicles after Spanish localities.
