Cancer experts urge healthy living

Up to 40 per cent of cases in province down to smoking, drinking or over-eating, says association

The Andalucían Cancer Society has urged people to adopt healthier lifestyles to prevent cancer, saying 40 per cent of the 3,700 cancer cases diagnosed each year in Almería province could be avoided.

Smoking, alcohol and obesity are the three main causes of preventable cancer, according to the association, which issued the advice to coincide with World Cancer Day on February 4.

Nearly 1,300 people died from cancer in Almería province last year, with the disease being the second most common cause of death after heart attacks.
