Bank of Spain questions minimum wage rise

A report by the Bank of Spain has controversially claimed that the increase to the minimum wage (SMI) in 2019 prevented the creation of 140,000 jobs that year.

The government has said the rise did not lead to job losses.

Unidas Podemos (UP) spokesman Rafa Mayoral asserted that the bank’s governor, Pablo Hernández de Cos ‘should be run out of town’.
