Luxury villas paying too little property tax, claims council

The region’s most expensive street to buy a home is paying some of the lowest rates of taxes to its local council, according to a recent town hall study.

Benitachell’s Cumbre del Sol urbanisation, overlooking the Cala del Moraig bay, has more residents than the main hub of the town itself – and one road in its Jazmines neighbourhood has an average home price of €2.6 million.

This was revealed in national news last summer – and at the time, Benitachell council was carrying out a local property tax (IBI) review.
