Two Nerja streets, honouring military figures from the Franco era, have been renamed. Calle General Asensio Cabanillas is now Los Tajares, while García Alted has become Encarnación Gallardo Pomares ‘La Comadrona,’ (The Midwife), a local woman who delivered hundreds of local babies. The new names were chosen in a public vote some months ago.
