Developers have moved in to start the construction of the vast housing estate at La Hoya in Torrevieja, described by one local councillor as a ‘town within a town’.

The 7,490-home urbanisation is being built on 1.8 million square metres of land between El Chaparral, La Mata-Torrevieja natural park, Quirón hospital, Jardín del Mar and the CV-905 dual carriageway.

The project gets underway with the building of infrastructure for the houses.

The work is generating a large amount of dust and sand particles, which are reaching nearby homes and covering patios, windows and vehicles.

The heavy plant is also causing noise pollution for the residents in Calle Jose Carreras and nearby streets.
