‘Tax-free’ shopping in Spain touted in London

Britons are being told that Spain is a ‘tax-free’ shopping destination, in a government marketing campaign.

Acting minister for tourism Héctor Gómez highlighted during a visit to London that UK residents are able to claim back VAT (IVA) on shopping purchases in Spain.

The UK government tells residents in Britain that ‘if you’re charged VAT in an EU member state, you’ll normally be able to reclaim this from the tax authority in that country’.
