CYD Santa María says its facility will take weeks to dry out

THE CYD Santa María horse rescue centre in Alhaurín el Grande has sent out an appeal for help following recent rains that have left the refuge’s facilities waterlogged and muddy, increasing the difficulty of caring for the animals and posing a risk to the horses’ health.

Many of the roughly 60 horses in the group’s care are elderly or in delicate health, says Virginia Solera, one of CYD’s founders. Veterinarian bills in recent months have reached around €3,000 a month. Full details on how to volunteer or provide financial support are available, in English, on the CYD Santa María website (asociacioncydsantamaria.es).
