Around 50,000 cigarette vending machines across Spain are out of action because of a week-long strike. The protest centres on fines of up to €120,000 issued by the Tobacco Market Commission related to contracts between tobacco companies and machine owners. The owners’ association says around 2,000 members have been “ruined” by the sanctions and has threatened a longer stoppage if no resolution is forthcoming.
