AN extreme open-water swimmer from Rincón de la Victoria scored a new achievement last week, making a 70-kilometre crossing between the Canary Islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
Forty-three-year-old Christian Jongeneel, a native ‘malagueño’ with a Dutch father, made the crossing in just over 16 hours, swimming overnight and without a wetsuit, in waters of around 20ºC.
