Málaga extreme swimmer makes island-to-island crossing in Canarias

Christian Jongeneel's latest challenge also raised money for charity

AN extreme open-water swimmer from Rincón de la Victoria scored a new achievement last week, making a 70-kilometre crossing between the Canary Islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Forty-three-year-old Christian Jongeneel, a native ‘malagueño’ with a Dutch father, made the crossing in just over 16 hours, swimming overnight and without a wetsuit, in waters of around 20ºC.
