Former Catalan leader in Brussels as Spanish court calls him to testify

Lawyer says Carles Puigdemont, ousted following Cataluña's independence declaration, will not appear at the hearings

FORMER Cataluña president Carles Puigdemont and his 13 former cabinet members, all of whom were removed by the Spanish government after the region’s parliament illegally declared Cataluña an independent nation, have been called to testify at Spain’s High Court today and tomorrow, November 2 and 3.

Puigdemont’s lawyer on Tuesday told Associated Press that the ex-Catalan president, currently in Brussels, will not attend the court hearings. He said he had proposed that Puigdemont be questioned in Brussels instead.
