Despite early concerns due to low rainfall, the flamingo mating season at the Fuente de Piedra lagoon has been a success, with around 8,000 chicks hatched so far, said Junta de Andalucía officials last week.

The number is expected to increase, as around 1,000 adults were believed to still be incubating eggs or brooding still uncounted newly hatched chicks as of last week.
