I am a retired lecturer and this year (for the first time) my teaching pension was included in my total Spanish income. This fiddle allowed the Spanish government to take an extra €1,000 from me this year. I also have a small BAE pension that is also taken into account for Spanish tax purposes.
It should also be noted that my lowest tax break in England is £10,000 (€12,000), but in Spain I pay tax on an income above €8,500 (£7,083), ie I start paying tax £2, 917 earlier.
This means that tax in Spain and tax in England is not a level playing field.
