FIRE crews in Nerja have being protesting over the delay to opening their new base. The temporary fire station at the top of Calle Filipinas was the scene of their demonstration last week, with a display of placards demanding a resolution to the situation which has left the new building unfinished.

The project to build a fire station to serve Torrox, Cómpeta and Frigiliana, as well as Nerja and Maro, began in April 2015. It now stands 95% completed on a 3,660-square-metre site, ceded by Nerja town hall, at the junction of the A-7 access road and the N-340 coast road.
