The Spanish Association of Tropical Fruit Producers says this year’s harvest in Málaga and Granada has been a “disaster” as a result of drought. The group says fewer than 30,000 tons of avocado were produced, against an annual European demand of 350,000 tons. It also estimates that improved irrigation in the provinces could boost jobs in the sector by over 10,000.
