A Briton recognised for promoting Galician language, literature and culture has died in Santiago de Compostela aged 73. Professor David Mackenzie won a cultural award from the regional government in 2014 and an achievement award at the London Hispanic Festival in 2001. In 1994, he became the first professor of Galician Studies in the English-speaking world at the UK’s Birmingham University.
