The Guardia seized two AK-47 semi-automatic rifles and ammunition in the raid

By Richard Torné

A 51-year-old Moroccan man has been charged with illegal firearms possession after the Guardia Civil seized two AK-47 semi-automatic rifles at his home address in Roquetas de Mar.

Officers also confiscated two silencers, 12 magazine clips for the Kalashnikov assault rifles, one pistol and 800 rounds of ammunition.

In a statement, the Guardia said the investigation was now focused on tracking down the origin of the firearms, as the serial numbers had been erased.

The detained man, who was arrested in the Spanish north-African enclave of Melilla, has previous convictions for a string of serious offences, including assaulting a police officer, threatening behaviour and document forgery.
