Terrorist Compensation

The European Court of Human Rights this week ordered the Spanish government to pay €50,000 in compensation to two convicted and jailed ETA terrorists, who bombed Madrid airport’s T4 car park in 2006, killing two people and injuring 56. The court said Igor Portu and Martín Sarasola, who suffered injuries while in custody, were subjected to “degrading and inhumane” treatment after their arrests. However, it is unlikely the pair will see this money, as it will go towards paying the millions in compensation they were ordered to pay during their sentencing in 2010.
