Players from Almería city orchestra travelled to Italy last week as part of an EU project to raise awareness of the Syrian refugee crisis, forming a specially created orchestra with Syrian, Italian and Bosnian musicians.
The project, called EU.Terpe – after Euterpe, the Greek muse of music – aims to highlight the plight of Syrian refugees while supporting smaller European orchestras that are working to extend the appeal of classical music in their areas.
The EU.Terpe orchestra includes members of the Syrian Exile Orchestra, and is conducted by Missak Baghboudarian, the director of the Damascus Orchestra.
