Women honoured in Almería

Almería council is marking international women’s day today (March 8) by honouring eight local women for their achievements in different sectors of society.

The nominees will be given awards in the fields of education, charity work, sports, media, business, science, equal rights activism and culture.

They include teacher María de Mar Reche, who has worked for 37 years in schools in some of the poorest areas of Almería city, young athlete María Castillo Castillo who at 17 years old has successfully represented the province in regional competitions, and Mercedes Oliver who 16 years ago founded the city’s orchestral association.
